You can find magnetic jewelry just about everywhere these days. You might even find some cheap magnetic jewelry at a kiosk at the mall. The first question on your mind might be, is magnetic jewelry safe to wear?
Is Magnetic Jewelry Safe to Wear?
In general I say yes, it is safe to wear. People have been using magnets on their bodies for thousands of years.
As with anything, there are some things you need to consider first though.
Can You Wear Jewelry At All?
Different people react differently to many different things. Some people I’ve talked to are allergic to the stainless steel that a lot of jewelry is made from. Or you might be allergic to the plating. A lot of different materials are used in jewelry plating to get a particular color and finish.
Then you have to consider your lifestyle. I tried wearing a necklace several years ago and it didn’t go well. My son was a baby and babies like to grab things. He was more persistent than the necklace was durable.
Then There are the Magnets
Now specificially, is magnetic jewelry safe to wear?
There are a lot of different things to look at in magnetic jewelry.
- Number of magnets in the piece?
- Strength of the magnets
- Positioning of the magnets in the piece
- Your magnetic sensitivity
- Are magnets safe for you?
I need to deal with that last point first. Magnets are not safe for all people. If you have a battery-powered implant, like a pacemaker or an insulin pump, then stay away from magnets. They can interfere with the proper functioning of your implant.
Beyond that, magnets should be safe for you.
The number, strength and position of the magnets determine how much magnetic energy you experience.
If there is just one magnet then you won’t receive much energy from it. The field will stay focused around the one magnet, mostly external to your body, and you won’t see much effect.
On the other hand, if there are 3 or more magnets spaced evenly around the piece then you will experience a lot more. The fields of the various magnets will interact and cause energy to move between them, where you are. The stronger the magnets are, the more effect you may see.
Effects I Have Heard Of
I sell magnetic jewelry from a network marketing company. There is my disclosure statement for you.
So, naturally, I talk to people about magnetic jewelry. Some people say they feel nothing. Other people are so sensitive that they can’t stand to wear it.
I had one customer who gave her magnetic bracelet to her neighbor because she was so sensitive she couldn’t even have it in her house, not even if it was out in the garage. Someone this sensitive wouldn’t be able to use a computer or watch a TV because they create magnetic fields much much stronger than the magnets in this bracelet.
Most people fit comfortably in the middle. They usually feel nothing when they put it on but over the course of a day or a week they begin to notice the effects.
Or they wear it for a month and insist that it had no effect. Then they take it off and miss it. They didn’t notice the gradual improvement over time, buy they do notice the sudden change when they take the magnet off.
They might have more energy or some complaint has decreased or gone away.
My Experience With Magnetic Jewelry
The question, is magnetic jewelry safe to wear, didn’t even cross my mind when I had my first opportunity to try one out.
A friend loaned me his magnetic necklace to try for a couple days to see if I wanted one for myself.
For whatever reason, I didn’t get much sleep one night while I had the necklace (not because of it). The next day I had several meetings at work. I have difficulty even on my best day staying awake in one meeting let alone several in a single day.
It’s warm from all the people, I’m sitting in a comfortable chair, and I’m bored. A prime sleeping environment.
As I said, this particular day I was already tired because I didn’t sleep well the night before. I knew I was doomed. My boss would laugh it off, but still, you don’t to fall asleep in a meeting with the coworkers you are with every day.
Thanks to the magnetic necklace I actually had no problem at all staying awake and alert all day long. I was absolutely amazed. Yes, I wanted one for myself.
Magnetic Jewelry Can Be Risky
This is where magnetic jewelry can get risky.
My friend was a distributor for the network marketing company that sells the necklace he loaned me. Thanks to how well the magnetic necklace worked that day, I decided to sign up as a distributor.
I was already looking for a change. I had just wrapped up massage school, which I started because I hated my previous job. My current job was great, but I only took it until I could get out on my own in massage.
The magnetic necklace was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back, the camel being my software development career. Yes, I quit a well-paying job over a magnetic necklace, but not right away. I’m not a complete idiot. 😉
What to Look for in Magnetic Jewelry
Is magnetic jewelry safe to wear? Yes, but I would still play it safe and buy from an established company that has been magnets and magnetic jewelry for a long time.
An established company will offer quality jewelry that won’t have craftsmanship issues. They will also be there tomorrow if there is a problem, or hopefully because you want another.
A company experienced in using magnets knows how to choose the right strength and place them so that you get the best effect.
Magnetic Jewelry
I have had a variety of magnetic jewelry over the years. I use magnetic sports bands, both neck and wrist, because they fit my lifestyle for now.
The company has metal necklaces and just released 4 new magnetic bracelets.
Disclaimer: I do not claim that you will get any particular benefit from magnetic jewelry. I believe that I benefit from them. I leave it to you to believe what you believe and experiment accordingly.

Would a wrist magnet cause hair loss of worn all the time?
Hi Barbara. No more than anything else worn all the time. I have 3 PowerBand wristbands around my wrist and haven’t experienced any additional hair loss issues. If you are concerned though, stop wearing the magnets for a couple months and see what changes.
I have always been curious about magnetic jewelry. I have known people to swear by them and others that say they have absolutely no effect. I have never tried it myself, but am curious how or if it would affect me.
The only way to find out if magnets will work for you is to try them. Find something inexpensive to try out. From Nikken that would be a Kenko PowerChip. Once you know you respond to them then you can invest more and know you aren’t wasting your money.
Hi, can I wear a magnetic bracelet and a watch at the same time, or will the magnets damage the watch?
The magnets shouldn’t damage the watch but they could possibly mess with it if it is battery powered. I don’t think they will affect a mechanical watch because Nikken offers one with magnets attached to it.
