Staying hydrated is important to me, so I make sure that my drinking water is clean and alkaline by filtering it at home and then I take it with me in a good water bottle if I’m not going to be home. The airport liquid restrictions make it so that I cannot do that if I travel by plane. When you get to airport security, liquids have to be gone. You can’t cram enough 3-ounce bottles of water into a 1-quart zip-top bag to last very long.
Problems with Water at Airports
Having access to drinking water when traveling by plane is very important. You already know about the importance of staying hydrated, so I won’t go into all of that again. When you travel by plane, you can spend a lot of time sitting at the airport and sitting on the plane. If you have traveled a lot, then you have probably noticed that the air in a plane is very dry. If you want to drink water (which you do, of course) your only options are a drinking fountain (which probably isn’t filtered) or seriously over-priced bottled water that you can buy from one of the stores in the airport. Neither one is a great option.
If you have an empty water bottle, airport security is not a problem. They only take issue with liquids, regardless of what the liquid is. So, what you need is a good filtered water bottle.
Benefits of Having a Filtered Water Bottle
An empty filtered water bottle should get through security without any challenges at all. Once you are through security, you can stop at the next convenient water fountain and fill up the filtered bottle for free. If you are like me and want to make sure that you have enough water to last through the flight, take another empty bottle and fill it up from the filtered water bottle too.
A filtered water bottle doesn’t have to be just for getting through the airport. They are convenient because you don’t have to carry a lot of water with you. You can filter whatever “drinkable” water is available when you need it.
My filtered water bottle of choice is the PiMag Sport Bottle from Nikken. It has a high quality filter that leaves the water clean and alkaline. The bottle also adds ions to the water similar to much more expensive, electrically powered units that have to be installed in a home. As a bottle, this one is obviously portable and does not use any electricity.
Unlike some other filtered water bottles, the Nikken water bottle has a replaceable filter cartridge. The bottle itself is reusable so you minimize the amount of material that you throw away each time the filter needs to be replaced.

I am a Nikken distributor, so I may earn a commission if you order your Nikken water bottle through one of the links above. I have two of the PiMag sports bottles that my family uses if we are going to be away from home.
