Original IonPod Portable Alkalizing Water Bottle

Today I was told about another water bottle that does some of the things that Nikken’s water bottle does, so I did some research on it to see what I could find out.

This bottle is the IonPod portable alkalizing water bottle. Umm, a water bottle that isn’t portable isn’t very useful, but I’m not here to pick on them, so I’ll let that go. I think they are comparing their bottle to the more expensive, non-portable systems like the Kangen system.

What the bottle does:

• alkalizes the water, improves pH, reduces acidity – all ways of saying the same thing.
• lowers the ORP (oxidation reduction potential)
• creates silky smooth, fresh tasting water in minutes

What the bottle doesn’t do:

• it doesn’t filter the water, it doesn’t even remove chlorine

They say that it alkalizes the pH up to 2000%. That’s the equivalent of saying that it is up to 20 times better. Take highly acidic water at 3 pH, multiply that by 20 and you get a pH of 60. The pH scale stops at 14, so what does 2000% mean?

One of the reviews on Amazon says that you cannot leave the water in the bottle for extended periods of time. Ideally, you want to fill it with water and drink it immediately. Now, it doesn’t filter the water, so you need to make sure that you fill it with water that has already been filtered. So with this system, when you leave home for the day you want to take your bottle of filtered water and your empty IonPod so that you can alkalize your water as you need it.

I am open to finding something better than Nikken’s bottle. I really am. The IonPod isn’t it.

The Nikken sport water bottle does everything that the IonPod does and filters the water too. You can fill your Nikken bottle from any drinking water tap. The bottle will filter, alkalize, and reduce the ORP of the water as you drink from it. You can leave water in it all day long if you like because it doesn’t do anything to the water until you drink from it.

Nikken makes very specific and understandable claims for what the filter will do. The water filtration meets or exceeds NSF standards for particulates, chlorine, chloramine, taste and odor, lead, VOCs, and MTBE. It adjusts the pH of the water to a value between 8.5 and 9.5. They don’t state a specific value for reducing ORP, but I wouldn’t know what it meant if they did.

Finally, the Nikken bottle costs a few dollars less than the IonPod.
