Anytime you buy a product from someone you always wonder if they actually use the product themselves. I am an independent Nikken distributor and I do use the products myself. I decided to write this series of posts to talk about the products that I actually use, why I use them, and what benefits I believe I receive from them.
When we started with Nikken six years ago, the first product pack we bought included the Air Wellness Traveler, Nikken’s portable air filter, so we used it. Our house is almost 2,000 square feet and this little unit is not intended to clean so much space. It is actually intended for up to 172 square feet.
Along with our first pack we received an air quality sensor as a demonstration tool. We tested the air quality in various parts of our house then started the Air Wellness Traveler running in a bedroom. We tested the air quality again about a week later and found that it had significantly improved throughout the house. We were amazed at what this little portable unit did.
Of course, those results are highly dependent on how well the ventilation system in our house keeps air moving so that after a week most of the air volume has passed through the air filter. Still, it is pretty impressive.
Within a couple months we bought the Air Wellness Power 5, Nikken’s full-size air filter. This one has a coverage area of 448 square feet. I would say that it has been thoroughly tested. We have two young kids and an indoor/outdoor cat who track in a lot of dirt from outside. When we first started using the air filter we had two cats, one with medium to long hair. We also prefer to keep our windows and doors open, so the air filter needs to deal with a lot of dust and pollen.
I have been very impressed with how well it handles the work we put it through. I think we have changed the filters twice in almost 6 years. It is getting close to time to change them again.
We do regular maintenance on our Air Wellness Power 5 air filter to avoid having the replace the filter pack more often. We regularly vacuum off the pre-filter screen and the front of the first filter stage.
We want to eventually get a couple more units because 2000 square feet is still a lot for a unit rated for just under 450 square feet. Just so you know, the current KenkoAir Purifier has a smaller coverage area but is measured at a much higher level of air filtration quality. The KenkoAir Purifier is an ULPA filter – Ultra Low Penetration Air filter. You’ve probably heard of HEPA filtration. HEPA doesn’t touch ULPA.

These products are great! Are there any plans of making products that can cover a larger area than 448 square feet?
Hi Luke, thanks for the comment. I don’t think it is likely that Nikken will produce a unit rated to cover a larger area because of the clean negative ion capability. The units are intended for a room, so 400 sq ft is a room that is 20 feet by 20 feet or the equivalent. That’s a good sized room for a house. The negative ions aren’t likely to drift much farther than that.
If you want it to clean the air in your entire home then put it in front of air return for your home’s heating and air system.
