Can Magnets Help You See Better?

I have worn glasses and contact lenses since I was about 7 years old. I turn 40 next month, so that makes it about 33 years. Eye doctors have told me that I may be a good candidate for surgery to correct my vision but I always decline because I don’t feel that it is worth the risk of infection, worsening my vision, or halos while driving at night, all possible outcomes of the surgery.

Lately I have been read a lot of things from multiple sources that say we can improve our eyesight without surgery and reduce our need on glasses and contact lenses. Our poor eyesight is a cumulative effect of eyestrain (tight muscles around the eye not letting it focus properly), diet, and a lot of other things.

I want to focus on the eyestrain / muscle tension and weakness part of it. I am a massage therapist, so I understand how this could be a factor. When you have stiffness and pain in your neck or shoulder from muscle strain then those muscles don’t function properly and you can’t turn your head like you could when everything is working properly. The same thing makes sense for your eyes too. If the muscles in and around your eyes are strained and tense then they cannot move the eye or shape the lens in the eye as they should. In this case it creates an out-of-focus picture on the retina that is then transfered to the brain and perceived as near-sightedness or far-sightedness.

When I have issues like this in my shoulder or anywhere else I can get a massage from my wife and apply magnets. So, since eye problems may be largely muscular problems, it stands to reason that a magnetic sleep mask or eye patch could help. That is what I am going to try.

Nikken has a magnetic sleep mask, and I have used it before. I wasn’t looking for improved vision at that time and I didn’t use it regularly, so I don’t know if it did anything or not. It is kind of heavy and I would sweat under it because it is warm here where I live in Georgia. This time I am going to make a lighter weight mask and put two Kenko Mini magnets in it, one for each eye, and see what happens. I don’t know if it will work or not, but I at least know that with magnets the worst that can happen is nothing.

If you have tried something like this then please let me know in a comment below how well it worked.
