Kenzen Paleo Bar snack bars. Each bar contains only four ingredients, is certified organic by the USDA, is 100% raw and non-gmo. They are available in two flavors – Tropical Delight and Chocolate Nut.
They are “Paleo” bars because they satisfy the requirements of the Paleo diet. The Paleo diet calls for whole, natural foods – lean proteins, fruit and vegetables, and healthy fats from nuts and seeds. They do not include the hydrogenated and partially-hydrogenated oils that are common in a lot of snack bars.
There isn’t really too much you can say about the ingredients in the Kenzen Paleo Bar. There are only four of them in each flavor. That’s it.
Tropical Delight Paleo Bar – Only four organic ingredients: dates, almonds, pineapple and coconut. Each box has 12 bars and each bar is 35 grams. Each bar has 20 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and 140 calories.
Chocolate Nut Paleo Bar – Only four organic ingredient: dates, almonds, walnuts and cocoa powder. Each box has 12 bars and each bar is 35 grams. Each bar has 16 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber and 160 calories.
Why Kenzen Paleo Bar?
Many of the so-called healthy snack bars or protein bars that you can get in grocery stores contain many ingredients that may not be so healthy. They have a lot of manufactured ingredients, you know, all those ingredients on the label that you can’t pronounce, or if you can you still have no idea where they come from. I’ve researched a few of those ingredients before and it really is better not to know.
They also contain a lot of ingredients that may be genetically modified, like anything that comes from corn or soy (and you would be surprised how many of those manufactured ingredients started as corn and soy).
The Nikken snack bars are completely organic (USDA certified and EcoCert certified) and contain no genetically modified ingredients. They also contain no gluten and all of those other things that we have learned that we want to avoid.
Nikken calls them Paleo Bars because they fit in with the Paleo diet. The idea behind the Paleo diet is that we should only eat what early humans had available to them. That means no processed foods (like sugar), no cereal grains (wheat or corn), and no dairy. The Paleo diet suggests that we should eat meat and fish, fruits and vegetables, and nuts and seeds.
The Nikken Chocolate Nut bar includes fruit (dates), nuts (almonds and walnuts) and chocolate. The Paleo diet does approve of chocolate.
The Nikken Tropical Delight bar includes fruit (dates, pineapple) and nuts (almonds and coconut). I looked up coconut to see if it is a nut and found that it is loosely classified as a fruit, nut and a seed.
What About the Price?
As of their introduction, both Kenzen Paleo Bar flavors sell for $40 for a box of 12. That’s $3.33 per bar. It sounds kind of expensive until you remember that both flavors include almonds. My wife likes almonds and they are expensive. They also have a lot of nutritional value.
The good news is that Nikken has also made them available for the autoship order program at 25% off. That makes the price $30 per box and $2.50 per bar. That’s about two king-sized Snicker bars, but with a lot more nutritional content and a lot less processed sugar. Check here for more information about how to set up an autoship order.
