I have received a few questions about Nikken magnets lately that I want to take a few minutes to answer.

How to Use Nikken Magnets

The first question is “how to use Nikken magnets?” When I get this question I assume people are talking about the Nikken magnetic patches, like the Kenko Mini, Kenko Flex, or Kenko Power Patches.

The Kenko Mini and Kenko Flex are typically used with the black side against the body and can be used anywhere that you need them and can get them to stay. The Kenko Flex is usually used on the lower back. The Kenko Mini can be used anywhere. I often hear about people placing a Kenko Mini in one their pants pockets or a shirt pocket. That is an easy way to hold them near where you want them.

I find the Kenko Power Patch to be easier to use because they are smaller and come already attached to a self-adhesive disk, like a circle Band-Aid. The bumpy side is intended to go against the skin and works great in most places. The smooth side is probably more comfortable against bone, like at the temples, in which case you can just peel the magnet off the adhesive and flip it over. I also think the Power Patch is a better value because you can get 30 of them for about the same price as 2 Kenko Minis.

How Do I Use My Insoles

Another common question I get is “how do I use my insoles?”

Magsteps first. Brand new they are probably too big to go into your shoes, so cut them down to the right size using a regular pair of scissors. There are faint lines at the toe and heel on the smooth side to show where to cut for your shoe size. The Magsteps are designed to go into your shoes with the bumps facing up toward your feet. If you find the bumps uncomfortable then take them out of your shoes, flip them over so that the smooth side is up, then put them back in. I recommend that you try the bumps again after 6 months or so. I don’t notice the bumps anymore even when I go hiking.

Now the Magstrides. The dark side with the Nikken EQL+FIR logo goes up toward your feet. Like the Magsteps, they will probably be too big for your shoes straight out of the box. The bottom side has the lines showing where to cut for your shoe size. Regular scissors will cut them. The dark surface has a far-infrared ( that’s what FIR stands for ) coating on it that helps to reduce sweating in your shoes.

Which Side on the Skin for Nikken Magnets

This is a common question that I receive about the Nikken magnets and I have already answered it for some of the magnets. More generally, if their is a bumpy side or a darker side, that is the side that goes toward your body. The bumps will be there to shape the magnetic field or to stimulate the skin and muscle, kind of like a passive massage. The darker side is usually dark because it is coated with Nikken’s far-infrared material that will help to regulate temperature to either gently heat the muscle or reduce sweating. Those are some good guidelines to help you out if you see a Nikken magnet that you aren’t sure about.

I hope that helped answer any questions you have about the Nikken magnets. If you have a question that I didn’t answer here then please leave me a comment below and I will get you an answer. I would also appreciate it if you would share this with your followers on Twitter and Facebook. There are some convenient buttons at the beginning of this post for you to do that.

It is common sense that asthma and air pollution are related. I don’t know if air pollution causes asthma or not but it is definitely a trigger for an asthma attack.

Asthma is chronic inflammation of the bronchial tubes in the lungs and can be triggered by anything that affects the air that is breathed in, like particles in the air and temperature changes. Attacks can also be triggered by anxiety. When someone becomes anxious they take short rapid breaths. For an asthmatic person who already has restricted breathing capacity, this is a problem.

Wikipedia talked about doctors using corticosteroids to treat asthma. The side effects seem to be almost as bad as the asthma itself. Anxiety, depression, osteoporosis, hypothyroidism, and diabetes. It seems to me that, except in extreme cases, people would probably want to avoid the corticosteroids if at all possible.

I even heard once of a treatment where doctors will go in and surgically remove some of the mucus membrane inside the bronchial tubes to give the sufferer better air flow capacity. The mucus is there to trap viruses and bacteria in the air to help prevent infections, or in the case of the lungs, to prevent respiratory infections and pneumonia. Granted, too much mucus may be at least part of the problem for people with asthma, but to cut it out can create scarring in the membranes that can cause other problems.

What needs to be done for asthma sufferers is to find out why they are so responsive to the asthma triggers. Is it too much exposure to air pollution at a young age? Maybe they grew up with smoking parents. Maybe they have lived near industrial farms that spray pesticides or fertilizers into the air? Was it an illness that affected their lungs?

Once a cause is known then it might be possible to create a course of detoxification to clean up the problem or at least put in place more specific preventatives to reduce the chances of an asthma attack and reduce their exposure to potentially harmful drugs. One preventative could be a quality air filter. An air filtration system that generates negative ions can be helpful as long as it doesn’t generate ozone. Breathing the negative ions may help to reduce the inflammation and help them breathe better and recover faster from an attack. The Nikken Air Wellness Power 5 Pro meets those requirements. It has multiple stages of air filtration and generates clean negative ions without producing ozone.

Please keep in mind that I am not a doctor and do not diagnose conditions nor prescribe particular courses of action for any condition that you may have. If you think you have asthma then you should see a doctor and, if you choose, let them know that you want to pursue non-drug means of handling it.

If you found this helpful or interesting then please leave me a comment below. I would also appreciate it if you would share this with your friends and followers on the various social networks.

Magnets affect particle flows that are perpendicular to the magnetic field. By rotating a magnet on an axis, you have the potential to affect a lot more energy flow. Add another axis of rotation and you create a 360 degree magnetic field that has the ability to affect any particle flow that comes within reach of the magnetic field.

The body’s energy fields are very weak when compared to the magnets that most people are aware of, which is good because we don’t really want sharpened knives to chase us through the kitchen like in some cartoons. We do create a magnetic field though and it is detectible by very sensitive medical and scientific equipment.

We also have a lot of energy flows within the body that are generate fields in the body and are affected by other fields in the body. These fields and flows are also affected by fields that occur external to the body, such as the artificial electromagnetic fields created by electricity, TVs, and computers. We are also heavily influenced by the Earth’s magnetic field, which is also very weak.

In fact, we depend on the Earth’s magnetic field interacting with the fields and energy flows in our body. Various medical scientists have determined that some of our illnesses are in fact caused by us being isolated or insulated from the Earth’s field. For example, when we are in our homes or work places surrounded by electric current, TVs, and computers, and other devices, we are effectively blocking out the more subtle magnetic field generated by the Earth and possibly exposing ourselves to harmful EMF. They have found that this can be a cause for depression, headaches, and fatigue.

What Nikken has done is given us small magnets of varying strengths to help us recharge and stabilize our bodies. We have a choice really. We can get rid of the electric currents and electronic devices that we surround ourselves with, spend more time outside, walk or ride a bike everywhere we go, and sleep on the ground. Or we can use magnets, like the ones from Nikken, to bring the Earth’s magnetic field inside, close to the body. While I do like to camp out in the woods from time to time, I generally prefer to sleep on a comfortable bed and make use of a lot of the modern conveniences that electricity provides.

That means that I also make extensive use of the magnetic products that Nikken provides on a day to day basis. Especially my magnetic insoles, magnetic bracelet, and magnetic mattress pad. I do not like to spend much time without them.

Going back to the spinning magnet affecting flows going every which way, Nikken offers something it calls Biaxial Rotation in two products, the Body Energizer and the Palm Mag.

I was just listening to a conference call where one of the participants was talking about how they use Nikken’s Biaxial magnets very effectively with horses. One of the cool things about using something like a magnet with animals is that it immediately removes any discussion of the placebo effect. You just can’t convince an animal that something works if it doesn’t.

If you found this interesting or helpful I would appreciate you sharing it with your followers on the social networks. I would also like to hear about your experiences with Nikken’s magnets in a comment below.

Need some home remedies for sunburn?

Now that it is summer, the temperatures are rising and people are spending time outside at the pool or the beach again. Sunburns are back too and you want some relief.

Aloe has always been a popular choice for treating sunburns, but what if you don’t have any on hand? If you happen to have one of Nikken’s water filters then you are in luck.

With a sunburn, what you want to do is get the affected area hydrated again. That’s what aloe does. Alkaline water that has been softened to improve absorption will work just as well. It is cool, soaks in to the cells to rehydrate, and doesn’t leave you feeling greasy afterward.

What I do is take a paper towel and fold it up into a pad so that it will hold plenty of water. Then I soak it in the water from my water filter so that it is dripping wet. Finally, I apply it over the affected area and enjoy the coolness while the water soaks into the skin.

While we are talking about burns, if you happen to burn yourself on the stove or the grill, it works great for soothing that too.

It also helps with fire ant bites. What I have seen with my kids is, if they get the water onto the bite right away it will go away almost completely. No blister or anything.

Disclaimer

This does not replace medical attention. If it is a serious burn then by all means, get proper medical help as soon as possible.

If you found this helpful then please share it with your friends and followers on Twitter and Facebook. A comment would be cool too.

If you follow Nikken then you know that the new magnetic mattress pads and pillows are made from natural latex. This change has had some people asking why the switch.

First off, some people are allergic to latex. It turns out that most of the people who think they have a latex allergy actually have a reaction to the powder or coating used in latex gloves, not the latex itself. Other people who have a reaction to latex actually react to something in synthetic latex and may not have any problems whatsoever with natural latex. In the case of the new pads and pillows, people shouldn’t have any allergy problems anyway because they never come into physical contact with the latex.

There are a number of reasons why Nikken chose to go with natural latex now instead of the artificial foams used in the past. Most importantly, natural latex retains its firmness better than any of the other foams that they looked at, giving the pad a longer life. It is naturally anti-microbial, which means that it resists mildew, dust mites, and any of the other little bugs that might otherwise try to live in there. It also naturally wicks away moisture and allows you body to maintain temperature better, so that you can stay in that deeper, rejuvenating sleep better.

The final reason for going with natural latex addresses a broader goal with Nikken, and a lot of other companies too for that matter, and that is to be more Earth friendly or “greener”. Natural latex is a renewable resource. It is harvested as sap from rubber trees and doesn’t require the destruction of the trees or other natural resources. It also doesn’t contain or emit any of the other harmful chemicals that are present in the synthetic latex manufactured from petroleum. Yes, that’s right, synthetic latex is made from oil just like plastic and a lot of other things. So, natural latex is much better for the environment, including the environment in your home, and is downright comfortable to sleep on.

Dr. William C. Dement, considered by some to be the father of sleep science, said that “Healthy sleep has been empirically proven to be the single most important determinant in predicting longevity, more important than diet, exercise, or heredity”.

Put more succinctly, sleep is more important than anything else to have a long life.

Sleep is important for many reasons. It provides a chance for the body to release stress, repair the normal wear and tear of the body, and do all of the other things that the body does when it relaxes. Basically, sleep is the time when the parasympathetic nervous system can take over. Heart rate slows, food gets digested, damaged cells get repaired or replaced, our immune system takes care of bacteria and viruses to keep us healthy.

During the day, when we are awake and active, we can be under a lot of stress. Stress raises the sympathetic nervous system, the one that controls the flight-or-fight response that we hear so much about. It also suppresses the parasympathetic system, so our immune response is slow, we don’t digest well, and our systems become acidic. If we stay in this mode for long, our systems become toxic.

We fix this when we sleep. By not getting enough sleep, we run the risk of not undoing all of the damage done by the day’s stress.

That’s where Nikken’s new Naturest Magnetic Mattress Topper comes in. It is a magnetic mattress pad that goes on top of your existing mattress. Nikken decided to go with natural latex for this pad because it keeps its firmness better than any man-made foam, naturally wicks away moisture, and makes it easier for you body to regulate temperature. It is naturally resistant to dust mites, mildew, and other microbes too. What this means for you is that you will sleep better. Your less likely to move about during your sleep, allowing you to stay in the deeper, rejuvenating stages of sleep.

If you’re looking at a magnetic mattress pad, then you probably already know that magnets are beneficial to the body for a variety of reasons. Most importantly, your body was designed to be in a magnetic field, specifically the Earth’s magnetic field. It is a very big magnet with a north and south pole. If magnetic fields were harmful, then the human race wouldn’t have come as far as it has. That is why Nikken uses neodymium magnets in the new mattress pad. They are natural Earth magnets so that we sleep fully exposed to the Earth’s natural magnetic energy while staying safely indoors.

The magnets in the new mattress topper help the body to relax and stay in that deeper, rejuvenating sleep. Magnets have also shown to be very helpful in stimulating the natural healing responses in the body. While not commonly talked about, doctors use magnetic fields to help bones heal if they haven’t healed properly on their own. So, it is safe to say that magnets can help the body to heal. They also promote energy flow ( we use magnets to generate electricity, so that is a proven fact as well ) and their is a lot of energy flowing in the body in the form of blood circulation and nerve conduction.

So, to summarize, sleep is vitally important for long life because it is the time for our bodies to relax and take care of the repair and rejuvenation that is possible during the stressful day. The Naturest magnetic mattress pad significantly helps that process by providing a restful environment built on natural latex foam and magnets that help the body stay in the deeper stages of sleep where that body restoration takes place.

Wayne Woodworth

PS. Nikken is offering free shipping on the Naturest pads until July 31, 2010

If you have a calcium deficiency, such as osteoporosis, the natural thing to do is drink more milk, right? It turns out that drinking milk may actually cause more harm. One thing that the body uses calcium for is to neutralize acids in the bloodstream and the protein from milk happens to be very acidic. Therefore, when you drink milk the calcium in the milk is used to neutralize the acidity. The problem is that their isn’t enough calcium in the milk to handle its own acidity, so more calcium is taken from the bones to deal with the rest.

So, drinking milk results in a net calcium loss.

The good news is that there are plenty of vegetables that provide calcium and the minerals that the body needs to process it. Bok choy, broccoli, collard greens, kale, mustard green, and turnip greens are all high in calcium. There’s even stuff in that list that I’ll eat!

If you would prefer to take a calcium supplement, then please make sure that it has the minerals that the body needs to use it, especially vitamin D. Other minerals that can help are Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, magnesium, and boron.

Nikken offers a great calcium supplement with the necessary additional minerals in CalDenx. The OsteoDenx supplement has the minerals to help you absorb calcium that you get from other sources.

PS. I would appreciate it if you could help spread the word about this. Please tweet it, share it to Facebook, or where ever your friends are.

Someone told me recently that they believed that another company’s magnets must be superior to Nikken’s magnets because they are stronger.

There are companies out there who sell extremely high-powered magnets and that claim that exposure to just the negative pole is beneficial and exposure to only the positive pole is harmful. They also claim that these high-powered magnets help with cancer and the like.

Nikken’s magnets, by comparison, are much weaker. Nikken’s magnetic products also provide a balanced magnetic field created with both positive and negative poles with the intent of balancing the body’s energy field. Nikken also doesn’t claim that their magnets will cure cancer or any other condition. It’s actually illegal for anyone who isn’t a medical doctor to make those kinds of claims. By balancing the body’s magnetic field, Nikken’s magnets allow the body to do what it does best, heal itself.

The inventor behind Nikken’s magnets believes that it is irresponsible for companies to sell such high-strength magnets. The body’s energy system is very subtle. It has very weak magnetic and electrical fields. Magnets are used to create energy because they influence moving charged particles. High-powered magnets will create a lot of energy which will very easily over-stimulate the body’s energy systems.

While possibly beneficial for extreme cases like cancer, I believe that people who are generally healthy need to be cautious of using high-strength magnets. With all that said, Nikken has been making magnets for wellness purposes for 35 years with excellent results. They wouldn’t still be around otherwise.

Have you heard of Magnetic Field Deficiency Syndrome? It is the name given to a host of symptoms that arise when a person has limited exposure to the Earth’s natural magnetic field.

How is that possible? Other than astronauts, we can’t leave the Earth, right?

Physiologists have determined that we receive about a third of our energy from external sources, like the Earth’s magnetic field. Dr. Kyoichi Nakagawa, M.D. believes that our exposure to the Earth’s magnetic field is reduced by the amount of time we spend in buildings and cars, and that this may interfere with our health. The effects of Magnetic Field Deficiency Syndrome can include headaches, stiffness in the muscles, insomnia, constipation, and fatigue. Long term deficiency can result in disease, reduce our ability to heal, and leave us more susceptible to microorganisms (bacteria and viruses) and toxins in our environment.

I found this information in a section on Magnetic Field Therapy in the book, Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide, Second Edition by Trivieri & Anderson. Scary stuff, huh?

Nikken shuns the term, magnetic therapy as it relates to their products because they don’t want them to be labeled as medical devices. All the same, they do have a natural magnetic field and are applied to the body with the intent to generate a positive effect. You know that you can take vitamins and other supplements to improve our nutrition. Nikken’s magnetic products are magnetic supplements to improve our exposure to natural magnetic fields, basically bringing them inside the buildings and cars that are otherwise blocking us from it.

If you are feeling any of the possible symptoms of Magnetic Field Deficiency Syndrome and have tried other remedies without much success, then give magnets a try. It can’t hurt.

Wayne Woodworth

PS. If you have an implanted device, such as a pacemaker, then check with your doctor before using magnets. Pacemakers generate their own electromagnetic fields and external magnets may interfere with them.

I have an Air Wellness Power 5, the previous incarnation to Nikken’s current air filter, the Air Wellness Power 5 Pro. I was surprised when the filter change light finally lit up this past weekend. It has been two and a half years since the last time we changed out the filters and, honestly, I thought the bulb behind the filter change light must have blown. The filter has kept up with 4 people and a cat for two and a half years. The cat is an indoor and outdoor cat, as are our 2 kids, so there has been a lot of dirt tracked in during the life of the filter cartridge. I’m just amazed.

I have ordered a replacement filter and we’ll see how long this one lasts.
