Jade GreenZymes Barley Grass

August 19th, 2010 2 comments

Nikken Jade GreenZymesNikken’s Jade GreenZymes Barley Grass supplement is the third of my top three favorite Nikken items. You can read about the other two in my recent posts about the Kenko Power Patch magnets and the Aqua Pour Water Filter.

Nikken has a different approach to nutritional supplements that what you will find at the store. It is about whole-food organic nutrition, not vitamins. You won’t find a Vitamin C supplement or a Vitamin B12 supplement. Instead, the focus on the body’s systems. They have their core nutrition line with the Jade GreenZymes and Ciaga. They have an an immunity supplement, a liver support supplement, and a digestion supplement. Even the calcium supplement isn’t just calcium.

Back to the Jade GreenZymes. It is more of a food than a supplement although you only take it at a teaspoon at a time. Young green barley grass is considered one of Nature’s perfect foods. It is packed full of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that the body needs to stay healthy.

Nikken’s barley grass is organically grown, harvested at its peak, and cold-processed to get as much nutritonal content as they possibly can. When you open your own jar you will see it for yourself. The powder is GREEN.

The bottle recommends 1 teaspoon mixed with cold water 3 times a day. I sometimes add my daily ounce of Ciaga to my morning glass of Jade GreenZymes. The Ciaga covers the taste of the grass if that is a problem for you. It was for me at first but I quickly got used to it. If it is something that you absolutely cannot get used to, then there are capsules as well.

What I like about the Jade GreenZymes is how it makes me feel. I always feel energized after drinking it. It is a great way to start my day and it works very well as a pick-me-up in the afternoon instead of going for something with sugar or caffeine.

It is available in a jar of powder, tubes of powder that are very convenient to take with you, and as capsules if you just can’t get beyond the grassy taste. I think it tastes like the grass that it is. Others have told me that it tastes like green tea or like peas. Try it for yourself and decide for yourself.

If hope you found this interesting. If you have tried Nikken’s Jade GreenZymes then leave me a comment below and tell me what you think it tastes like. Also, please share this with your followers on the social networks. That would be greatly appreciated.

Nikken Ciaga Juice

August 2nd, 2010 No comments

My favorite nutritional drink is Nikken Ciaga Juice.

Ciaga in’t actually a juice, it is a blend of 21 juices and extracts including noni juice, pomegranate juice, and goji berry juice among others. If you want to see the whole list then check out the ingredients in Ciaga here. Two important things about Ciaga that make it stand out from the crowd of nutritional drinks is that Ciaga does not include any preservatives or added water.

No Preservatives or Added Water

Preservatives in other nutritional drinks tend to react with the natural ingredients to make potentially toxic chemicals. People have asked me about Ciaga vs Vemma and Mona Vie vs Ciaga. While both of these products contain great nutritional content, they both contain additional water and preservatives. At least they did when I last saw the nutritional labels. I wasn’t able to find them online for this post. I would appreciate it if someone could forward me links to their labels.

How to Take Ciaga

The bottle suggests just one ounce per day. That’s it. Drink up. What I like to do is take my one ounce of Ciaga, a teaspoon of Jade GreenZymes barley grass, and add water. As you can imagine, that many juices and extracts in one bottle with out water to dilute it could be pretty potent. It is too sweet for my taste which is why I water it down. I mix in the barley grass powder because the sweetness covers the grass taste. It also makes for a great drink to wash down any other nutritional supplements that I want to take.

Where to Buy Ciaga

All that’s left is where to buy it, and you can do that right here. If you would like to get a discount, you can get a 20% discount by picking up my FREE newsletter. I include a promotion code in each issue and you can get it on the right side of this page.

If you have any experience with Ciaga that you would like to share then please leave me a comment below. I would also appreciate it if you would share this with your followers on the social networks.

Milk Doesn’t Help with Osteoporosis

April 27th, 2010 No comments

If you have a calcium deficiency, such as osteoporosis, the natural thing to do is drink more milk, right? It turns out that drinking milk may actually cause more harm. One thing that the body uses calcium for is to neutralize acids in the bloodstream and the protein from milk happens to be very acidic. Therefore, when you drink milk the calcium in the milk is used to neutralize the acidity. The problem is that their isn’t enough calcium in the milk to handle its own acidity, so more calcium is taken from the bones to deal with the rest.

So, drinking milk results in a net calcium loss.

The good news is that there are plenty of vegetables that provide calcium and the minerals that the body needs to process it. Bok choy, broccoli, collard greens, kale, mustard green, and turnip greens are all high in calcium. There’s even stuff in that list that I’ll eat!

If you would prefer to take a calcium supplement, then please make sure that it has the minerals that the body needs to use it, especially vitamin D. Other minerals that can help are Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, magnesium, and boron.

Nikken offers a great calcium supplement with the necessary additional minerals in CalDenx. The OsteoDenx supplement has the minerals to help you absorb calcium that you get from other sources.

PS. I would appreciate it if you could help spread the word about this. Please tweet it, share it to Facebook, or where ever your friends are.

Pollen Allergies

April 6th, 2010 6 comments

I have pollen allergies, always have and probably always will.

It is finally Spring here and the temperatures have warmed up significantly. We have had our windows open all day and all night for the past 4 days or so to take advantage of the nice weather. I don’t know why, but right after lunch today I came back to my desk and my pollen allergies hit hard. The whole burning, itching eyes thing.

I wrote a blog post before, probably this time last year, about how barley grass helps me manage my allergies. Well, I haven’t been the best at keeping up with taking my nutritional supplements, so my body was unprepared to handle the pollen today. I went ahead and took some of my Jade GreenZymes and promised myself that I would start taking it 3 times a day for the next couple months until the pollen has passed for the most part.

After drinking it down I was pleasantly surprised to find the the itching started to subside within a few minutes and was pretty much gone after about 30 minutes.

I refuse to let my allergies slow me down, so I’m glad that I have something to take care of it that doesn’t require a prescription. Obviously I cannot promise that everyone will have the same results, but since the stuff is food and not a drug, it probably won’t hurt to try.

New Meal Replacement Shakes

November 24th, 2009 No comments

Nikken has launched a new meal replacement shake. The previous shakes have either been based on whey or soy protein and one used sucralose as a sweetener. These all have problems for different people. Some people can’t take whey because it is derived from milk and they have allergies to that.  Research is finding that soy isn’t everything that it was supposedly cracked up to be.  If you search www.mercola.com for articles about soy, you will find that soy has a lot of potential health risks. These risks include hormone imbalance, memory loss, and increased cancer risk. You can also find several stories about the risks of using sucralose, which you may know by the brand name Splenda, at mercola.com as well.

The new shakes are based on vegetable protein, not soy or whey, and use an organic sweetener, so they don’t have any of the problems that the old shakes had. Like before, the are available in both vanilla and chocolate flavors. A real plus for the new shakes is that, keeping inline with Nikken’s push to go more organic, more of the ingredients come from organic sources. They also qualify as a nutritional supplement because they contain prebiotics and probiotics to help with gastrointestinal health.

All that is great, but the important question is how do they taste?  I personally don’t know yet (my shake mix is supposed to ship to me tomorrow). I have heard that they taste great, even better than the previous shakes. If you are someone who has an allergy to any of the ingredients in the previous shakes, then you now should have a viable option for meal replacement.

Even better than anything I can say about them, try them for yourself and let me know what you think.

Health Care – Should the Government Be Involved?

September 18th, 2009 No comments

You’ve heard all the noise in the news about the government’s proposed health care plan.  I even received an automated phone survey from one of our congressmen to get my input on it. The survey also asked questions about taxing the wealthy, which I discuss on another blog. This is about my take on the health care debate.

I think the government, and the whole “health care” industry in general, has taken the wrong approach. Drugs and surgery are only attempts at fixing problems after they occur, and for the most part they only cover up symptoms without addressing the cause of the illness. A better way is to address the lifestyle choices that are causing the problems. I choose to call it “wellness care“.

You are the result of the daily choices you make. If you choose to eat fast food, drink sodas, and deprive yourself of sleep on a regular basis then you have a better chance of getting sick. They increase the stress and acidity in the body. That’s all there is to it.

If you prefer to eat healthy vegetables, supplement your diet, drink plenty of clean water, and get enough sleep, then your chances of staying healthy are much better. These choices decrease acidity and put less stress on the body.

It all comes down to choices.

I can put it another way for you. The US has one of the most “advanced” medical system in the world. Nobody is better at drugging and cutting the body than we are. We are also one of the most chronically ill countries on the planet. Why is that? My opinion is  that health doesn’t come from a pill bottle or syringe, and that is all that a government health care plan is likely to address.

This is what I’m doing to stay healthy, especially with all of the illness concerns that people have right now. I have an organic salad with spinach and other tasty leaves just about every day for lunch. I eat my salad dry so that I need to drink plenty of water to wash it down which helps to make sure I get the necessary amount of water every day. I also take nutritional supplements, sleep on a magnetic mattress pad, and make time to play with my kids (play helps to relieve stress).

What choices are you going to make today?

Are You Acidic? And Why Should You Care?

July 8th, 2009 No comments

Acidity is a big problem that causes even bigger problems.  So, do you have problems with acidity?  A lot of people do.

Before I get in too deep, I have to say here that I am not a doctor.  I don’t diagnose problems, prescribe anything, or treat anything.  Ask your doctor before you try anything new, especially if you already have real issues.

First, are you acidic?  It is easy to find out with a piece of litmus paper by testing your saliva.  It is best to do it first thing in the morning before you’ve had anything to eat because the chemicals in your food with throw off the results.

Why do you care if you are acidic?  An acidic condition is a huge burden on your body.  It has to maintain an environment that is slightly alkaline, between 7.2 and 7.4 on the pH scale.  Acidosis is the name for the condition when a person gets too acidic.  A person who gets too far out of this slightly alkaline range will die because certain life-sustaining chemical processes cannot take place.  It is that important.  Since the body’s first concern is self-preservation, it will do everything it can to maintain that pH balance.

Calcium and a few other minerals are used to buffer acid in the blood and those minerals are stored in the bones.  Calcium is also used by the body to build strong bones and to regulate the heart beat.  Here’s a good article about how calcium is used to beat the heart.  So, if the blood is using all of the calcium to buffer acid, what is going to build strong bones and beat your heart?  See the problem?

What are the causes of acidity and how do you fix them?  Diet and stress are two of the biggest causes.  Let’s deal with stress first because diet is the bigger topic.  Stress causes your body to flood itself with adrenaline, which is acidic.   Normally, this is a good thing because it gives us the heightened awareness to deal with a dangerous situation.  The problem for us is that we constantly put ourselves into stressful situations and never give our bodies that chance to flush the adrenaline out and take a break.  A good night’s sleep is the best solution.  I’m talking about a full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.  How often do you get that?  Meditation is another good idea.

Now let’s address diet.  Diet is what you eat, whatever that may be.  Most people have a highly acidic diet.  Fast food, processed food, meat, soft drinks, you name it.  If it isn’t a fresh vegetable or water then it is probably acidic.  Actually, the water a lot of people drink is acidic too if it is a purified bottled water or comes from a reverse osmosis or distillation system.  A lot of people don’t eat their vegetables either.  So, how do you fix it?  It is simple.  Eat a lot more veggies, drink a lot more water, and cut back on the rest of the stuff.

Don’t get me wrong on this diet thing.  I’m still not a big fan of a lot of vegetables and I love a lot of acidic foods.  It is something that I’m still working on.  One thing I was able to do though, and I recommend you do too, is to cut out carbonated soft drinks and replace them with water, alkaline water.  The added carbon dioxide that makes the fizz also joins with the water to make carbonic acid.  I’ve heard that it takes 30 glasses of water to neutralize the acid in one can of soda.  It has become such a problem these days that teenagers are being diagnosed with osteoporosis, which used to be a disease you heard mostly associated with elderly ladies.

My recommendations:

Once you have started to take control of your acid then you can think about a calcium supplement and other things to restore the proper balances in your body.  Also, check out my blog post about Osteodenx, a bone density supplement.

Problems With Preservatives

June 6th, 2009 No comments

I posted about a month ago about how there are so many companies out there pushing their nutritional juice and that most of them have preservatives.  Well, I received an email this morning from my upline about a comparison between our product, Ciaga, with a competing product.  I won’t name the other company because my point isn’t to bash them and their product, but to point out that you really need to watch out when preservatives are involved.

It turns out that their product includes Sodium Benzoate, a preservative, which can react with the high Vitamin C content to produce Benzene.  Benzene is an organic solvent that is known to cause cancer and liver damage.  I recommend that when you are going to put something in your body, you read the label first and see what it is.  Reconsider products with artificial ingredients because you never know how they will react with the other chemicals added, or the food itself.  Consider 100% natural or,  better yet, organic alternatives that contain only what is advertised and promote better living.

Our product, Ciaga, is 100% natural containing 97% juices and 3% fruit solids.  It contains no preservatives, added sugar, or added water.

BTW, I also found out that added water means “reconstituted from dried fruit powder”.  Ciaga is definitely NOT reconstituted.

I have my Ciaga, do you?

Nutritional juices

May 13th, 2009 3 comments

Have you ever noticed how there are a ton of nutritional juice products out there all claiming to be the best?  Xango, Goji, Vemma, Ciaga, Mona Vie.  I know there are plenty more.  I recently had two people from a company that was new to me want me take a look at their product.  Sure enough, it was a juice product.

When looking at a new drink I always go straight for the nutritional label.  I want to know what’s in it.  The things that always concern me is added water, usually purified by reverse osmosis (highly acidic), and added preservatives.  They aren’t added because they are good for you.

I promote Ciaga, an organic juice with no added water, no preservatives, and a high ORAC (antioxidant) rating.  Until someone can show me another juice that compares with that, I’m going to stick with my Ciaga.  I only need to take one ounce a day, it is sweet, and my kids love it.  What more could you ask for?

Immunity Boosting Mushrooms

March 9th, 2009 No comments

Nikken has an immunity supplement that is made from a blend of 14 medicinal mushrooms and I have had good results with it, both for myself and my kids.

I purchased the book Conquering ANY Disease while at a seminar and found some amazing information about five of the mushrooms that are in Nikken’s Immunity supplement.

In Chinese clinical studies Cordyceps mushrooms were shown to alleviate fatigue, improve memory and cognitive capacity, and improve cold tolerance.  Cordyceps mushrooms also help patients with respiratory diseases to feel stronger.  They boost immune function and improve the liver’s ability to detoxify.

Agaricus Blazei is legendary in Japan for its immune system benefits.  Agaricus’ extremely high beta glucan content can cause the immune system to boost its production of white blood cells, which make us more resistent to disease.  Research in Japan has also confirmed that Agaricus stimulates and enhances the macrphages that destroy or stop the multiplication of damaged cells, giving it a profound effect on cancer patients.

Shitake and Maitake mushrooms are also packed with beta glucans, which are clinically proven to inhibit cancer cell growth, remove plaque and dilate the arteries to reduce blood pressure, increase the bodies white blood cells and stimulate the immune system.

Reishi mushrooms have long been a symbol of longevity in Asia. Of all the Chinese herbs, Reishi mushrooms are the most powerful for strengthening the immune system.  In Japan, Reishi mushrooms are used to manufacture an approved anti-cancer drug.  It has been used to help people with allergies and asthma because the Ganoderic Acid contained in Reishi mushrooms has been shown to inhibit histamine release and improve oxygen utilization.  It has also been used to help against AIDS, Leukemia, and coronary heart disease.

These are just five of the potent mushrooms that are found in Nikken’s Immunity supplement.
