Plastic, Plastic Everywhere

Nikken Water Filter vs Plastic BottlesAccording to the IBWA website, the bottled water industry sold 6 billion gallons of water in 2002 and sold 9.1 billion gallons of water in 2011. I saw on the CRI website that sales of bottled water in 2002 was 14.7 billion bottles and in 2010 was 42.6 billion bottles. That’s just in the U.S.

That’s a lot of water sold, and the plastic bottles that it comes in. The CRI website also said that 8 out of 10 bottles end up in a landfill or incinerator.

There is a much better choice, much less expensive in the long term, and more convenient. I have a great water filter at home, so when I leave home I take my water with me.

It is more convenient to have a water filter at home and take my water with me than to have to go searching for water when I’m thirsty. You know how much water you are supposed to drink in a day, right?

Have you noticed how expensive bottled water is? The brands that are fit for human consumption are even more expensive. A good water filter can be very inexpensive when you compare the costs over a period of 3 to 5 years. Then there is the cost to clean up the bottles that are left laying around as trash and the cost to the planet when they end up in a landfill.

Finally, look at the quality of water. Most bottled waters that I know of are either acidic (purified by reverse osmosis) or taste bad because of the mineral content. Who knows what else might be in the water.

If I’m going to be away from home for several hours, longer than what one bottle will last me, then I take a filtered water bottle. Then I can find a sink or water fountain to fill it up then filter the water into my regular bottle. I still use my regular bottle because it has a greater capacity than my filtered water bottle.

Get a good water filter and a good reusable bottle or filtered water bottle and save yourself and the planet the hassle of single-use plastic bottles.
